First of all, congratulations on taking the initiative to better your eating habits.
Strive for 5!! This is the recommended number of servings of fruits and vegetables we should eat daily according to the USDA's dietary guidelines. 3 servings of vegetables and 2 of fruit per day.
Too many of us do not get anywhere near this amount but there are so many benefits to eating more deep colored fruits and vegetables. These colorful foods are high in fiber, antioxidants, essential vitamins and minerals and low in fat and calories.
Just beware of starchy vegetables, such as peas, corn and potatoes for these contain more carbohydrates which affects your blood sugar. Also choose fruits canned in light syrups
and consume small portions of dried fruit and fruit juices.
Good luck and enjoy the rainbow!
